The requested page title is invalid. It may be empty, contain unsupported characters, or include a non-local or incorrectly linked interwiki prefix. You may be able to locate the desired page by searching for its name (with the interwiki prefix, if any) in the search box.

Chrome Remote Desktop: security
Chrome Remote Desktop requires a PIN every time you try to access a device remotely. You can set and change PINs for each individual device. PINs have to be at least six characters long, but they only need to contain numbers.
For Remote Support, the app provides a one-time access code which expires after the first connection. Users are asked to confirm that they still want to share their screen once every 30 minutes.

Before you begin setting up Chrome Remote Desktop, it’s important to understand you have the right remote desktop tool for your needs.
Checking out the best remote desktop software is a good place to start, but also read up on leading platforms like TeamViewer and RemotePC to check you have the right software for your business needs. Each offers different pros and cons, meaning there’s rarely a one-size-fits-all solution.
Chrome Remote Desktop is best suited for a business that needs to occasionally connect to other desktops from any location. It works across all major devices, and merely requires the Chrome browser to be installed, but it can be limited when it comes to sharing functionality.
It’s also not possible to reboot a system remotely using the software, which can be a major issue for some users. Some users may find it too limited, but it’s ideal for quickly ‘jumping’ into someone’s system temporarily, rather than as a permanent remote desktop setup.
Once you’ve settled on Chrome Remote Desktop, it’s important to make sure that all computers or devices using it have Chrome installed to get the best functionality from the service. It’s also important to have a Google account set up, but in the majority of cases, most users are likely to have one.
How to set up Chrome Remote Desktop on a Mac, PC, or Linux computer
If you’re planning to access another computer from your Chromebook, you’ll need to set up Chrome Remote Desktop on that computer.
- Open the Chrome browser on the computer you wish to access remotely.
- Go to remotedesktop.google.com/access.
- On the Remote Desktop site, click on the tab that says Remote Access.
- Click on the downwards-pointing blue arrow in the box that says Set up remote access to download the remote access installer package.
- A new tab on the Chrome web store will open up. Click on Add to Chrome to add the Chrome Remote Desktop extension for quick access.
- After carefully reading the permissions required, select Add extension when a prompt asking Add «Chrome Remote Desktop»? pops up.
- Next, the remote access installer package will start to download. Choose the download location for the installer package and click on Save.
- After the remote access installer package downloads, click on Accept & Install on the remotedesktop.google.com/access tab.
- A prompt will ask you to Open download, click Yes.
- To install the remote access package, select Yes when prompted Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?
- After installation, Choose a name for your host computer and click Next.
- Set up a six-digit PIN for this computer so that you can access it remotely from another device and click Start.
- When you’re ready to share the screen with another computer, click on the Chrome Remote Desktop extension from your Chrome toolbar.

Note that you may have to grant this app permission to operate on your computer or modify your computer’s security permissions. These must be granted if you want to use the Chrome Remote Desktop feature on your computer.

Don’t like the idea of using Google Chrome? That’s fine, use Microsoft Edge instead. Now that the new Edge is based on Chromium you can simply go to the Chrome Web Store and install the extension to Edge instead. Presumably the same applies to other Chromium-based browsers such as Opera and Brave, too.
For the most stream crossing I could manage in one go I tried it out in Microsoft Edge for Linux running on Chrome OS and the experience was identical to running inside Google Chrome. You get a warning the first time you set the extension up that you should really install Chrome, but you just ignore that and go about your merry way.
There really is no reason in my mind that I’d ever want to bother with Microsoft’s built-in tools again, especially as long as it’s behind Windows 10 Pro. Chrome Remote Desktop is a genuinely superb piece of free software that’s incredibly user friendly and accessible to all without needing any amount of technical know-how. Just install the two pieces, log in, and away you go.
