Hydraulic baler for metal scrap

Hydraulic metal baler is used to press all kinds of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap – metal bits and pieces, used metal sheets, pipelines and tube, profiles, cans, rods as well as shavings (but no more than 100 mm in length).

The density of output product that is a metal bale after been bailed in hydraulic baler can achieve up to 60% of the density of the raw material. So, the main aim of baler is to decrease the volume of metal scrap either to store it in warehouse or for transportation. Pressed scrap is much cheaper in transportation. Also the ready bales can be directly forwarded to the smelting furnace. For this, the end-users can order the baler with specific final dimensions of output bales.

The baler for metal scrap consists of four main components:

  • Oil and pumping station that produces necessary pressure
  • Hydraulic cylinders which work due to working pressure
  • Main body of the baler with pressing chamber where the metal scrap is being processed/baled
  • Valve station which is used by operator to control the process of scrap recycling

Also it is necessary to have additional equipment to arrange the whole process that can include loading equipment to load scrap into the working chamber (material rehandlers, cranes, conveyor belts, etc.), unloading equipment that can take the ready bales out of the chamber and put them to the special area and also protective means for operator and working personnel.

Working cycle of the baler includes the following:

Metal scrap is loaded into the working chamber when the top cover of the baler is opened. This chamber is a solid and rigid box made of thick structural steel. The chamber is covered with special armor plates resistant to tear and wear. The quantity of loaded scrap is controlled by the operator of the baler or automatically by the system. After the working chamber is full, the pumping station produces the pressure and cylinders lower the top-cover of the baler. Top cover is also covered with armor plates easy to remove in case of damage. After the chamber is closed by means of several powerful cylinders the scrap is being pressed into the ready bale of high density. Then the top cover opens, and the bale is taken out from it.

The balers can differ by their pressing force: small (up to 50 Tons), middle-sized (up to 200 Tons) and large balers (up to 650 Tons). Also the clients can choose the size of working chamber according to the scrap size they want to recycle. Important feature of the baler is also the size of ready bales. Clients may need to have the precise size of final product in order to put it directly to the smelting furnace. Also you should know the final capacity of baler per hour; it can vary from 1-2 Tons per hour up to 50-60 Tons per hour.

It is also very important that the baler should correspond to all standards according to safety and quality (ISE, EU, GOST, etc). Hydraulic baler is rather complex equipment and the operator should have training before he can start to work with it.
