The Russian Ministry of Energy does not expect new restrictions on cryptocurrency mining, said Andrey Maksimov, director of the Electric Power Industry Development Department of the Ministry of Energy.

During a speech at the annual professional conference of the association “Council of Energy Producers,” Maksimov emphasized that the ministry has not yet received requests from governors with proposals to limit the production of digital assets.

“There is no reason. Everything is fine. Since there are no shortages, there is no reason. In general, our energy system works well,” the official explained.

He recalled that the possibility of a ban on mining is considered only if requested by regional authorities.

Since the beginning of the year, the Russian government has introduced a ban on the extraction of digital assets in several energy-scarce regions, including the republics of the North Caucasus, Buryatia and Transbaikalia, in the southern part of the Irkutsk region.

Earlier, Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev said at the Eastern Economic Forum that bans on the extraction of digital assets introduced in a number of areas had a positive impact on the state of the national energy system.
