Hungary has blocked the allocation of additional 18 billion euros to Ukraine

Hungary blocked the provision of 18 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023 during the meeting of the finance ministers of the European Union. This was reported by the publication vg.hu with reference to the decision of Hungarian officials.

During the open part of the meeting of the Council on Economic and Financial Affairs, the Minister of Finance of Hungary Mihai Varga spoke out against the legislative amendments allowing the allocation of money to Ukraine.

“Hungary is against amendments to the financial legislation,” said the relevant minister, speaking during the meeting of the Council on Economic and Financial Issues.

It is about multi-year financial legislation that must be approved by all countries- by the members of the European Union.

The blocking by Hungary of the allocation of additional 18 billion euros to Ukraine in 2023 was confirmed at the meeting by the head of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic, Zbigniew Stanyura. According to him, the allies were unable to adopt the project in general, but Brussels will continue to look for alternative solutions for providing support to Ukraine, which will be supported by all states. I am asking the Committee on Economy and Finance to find an alternative solution. This means that we have to find a solution that will be supported by all states,” the Czech minister's agency quotes.

We should note that at the beginning of November, the media from it was reported that Hungary, at the level of ministers, is blocking the provision of additional 18 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.

It was also reported that Hungary is blocking Ukraine's participation in NATO meetings.
