One plus 12

The LYT-808 is a variant of the sensor that was used in the Open foldable, and similar to that device, it does a terrific job on the OnePlus 12. Joining the main camera is a 64MP OmniVision OV64B telephoto lens with a 1/2-inch sensor and OIS that delivers 3x optical zoom and 6x in-sensor zoom. You get digital zoom that goes up to 120x, and while that’s mostly a gimmick, you get usable shots at up to 10x, and that’s no small feat.

Android Central Verdict

It took OnePlus a decade, but it finally created a flagship without any noticeable drawbacks. The OnePlus 12 retains a similar design as last year, but you’ll find plenty of subtle tweaks that make it stand out. The 120Hz AMOLED display is among the best of any phone available today, you get the latest hardware, the larger battery lasts two days, and there’s 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The cameras also get meaningful upgrades, and they take stellar photos and videos in any scenario. Earlier OnePlus phones were a good option for what they cost, but the OnePlus 12 doesn’t need that particular qualifier — this is a terrific flagship that holds its own against the best that Samsung, Xiaomi, and Google have to offer.

OnePlus had a stellar 2023 on the back of the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Open, and while these devices garnered most of the attention, the Chinese manufacturer had several smaller victories — it introduced a new QLED TV, rolled out notable upgrades to its mid-range Nord portfolio, and managed to launch a mechanical keyboard.

OnePlus is looking to build on that momentum with the OnePlus 12. The phone doesn’t deviate too much from last year in terms of design, but you get subtle modifications that make it a look a little more polished, a new AMOLED panel that’s among the brightest of any phone today, upgraded cameras that take better photos, and a larger battery that lasts noticeably longer. Oh, and wireless charging is back — this is a Pro model in all but name.

Clearly, there’s a lot to like with the phone, but the rest of the field is also touting enticing upgrades this year; Samsung went all-in on AI with the Galaxy S24 series, the Xiaomi 14 series has standout cameras, and the Pixel 8 Pro continues to deliver the best overall experience on Android, even if the hardware isn’t quite on par with other devices.

And for all the changes OnePlus made on the hardware side of things, the software itself is still the same, and it continues to have its share of issues. That’s about the only negative here, and overall, the device has what it takes to go up against the best that this segment has to offer.

The Chinese manufacturer has been building up to this over the last four years, and in the OnePlus 12, it finally has a phone that lives up to the Never Settle moniker.

OnePlus 12 review: Price and availability

Technically speaking, the OnePlus 12’s starting price increases to $799. That’s a $100 increase over the OnePlus 11. It’s not what anyone wants to see, but it’s not entirely surprising either given how Apple and Google upped the prices of their respective top-of-the-line flagships by the same amount.

Through an exclusive trade-in offer available only through the OnePlus’ website, you can get an additional $100 off the price of the phone by trading in any phone in any condition — effectively bringing the cost of the OnePlus 12 down to the same $699 cost as last year’s model. Once again, the company is undercutting its rivals in this area, and quite frankly, it’s proof that the OnePlus 12 is one of the best affordable flagships around.

While the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage starts out at $799, there’s also a 16GB RAM model offering 512GB of storage for $899. It will go on sale starting February 6 at OnePlus directly and select retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon.

OnePlus 12: Price and availability

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 12 on December 5, but only for the Chinese market. The global release of the OnePlus 12 is scheduled for February 6, and will be available to purchase from OnePlus and select retailer like Amazon and Best Buy.

Price-wise you’re going to pay at least $799 for the OnePlus 12, which is $100 more than last year. This nets you a model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. Upgrading to 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage will set you back $899.

OnePlus will also be offering an exclusive trade-in bonus, which will earn you an additional $100 off the price of a OnePlus 12 handset.

While more expensive than previous years, the OnePlus 12 is still undercutting the competition — including the likes of the Google Pixel 8 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

OnePlus 12: Cameras

Thanks to its partnership with Hasselblad, OnePlus was able to deliver sizeable gains on the camera front over the last 18 months. This is evident when using the OnePlus 12, with the phone able to take amazing photos in just about any situation.
