      Donations

      • Overhaul of all game aspects.
      • The game now takes significantly more time to complete.
      • 20 Levels for your characters.
      • Action Point Overhaul: The base number of action points has been increased, and nearly all camp items grant action points, with higher levels providing more.
      • Weight Overhaul: The weight of all items is more realistic. Poneys and prisoners can now carry the most weight. Very few items, such as Iron and stone, were increased, while others greatly decreased, such as Salt, Gems, and Flowers. It is possible to hoard almost everything you encounter and still have space if that’s your strategy. Remember, that heavy armour is now cumbersome and will impede walking on the map! Same as some accessories (horseshoes) now will reduce your carrying capacity, while Saddlebags will slow you down. «Treasure of the Ancients» now weighs the same as the specific item it will transform into.
      • Skill Tree Overhaul. Animal Skill Tree and Equipment Overhaul: Complete rework of all skill trees. Many skills, such as «Subversive Strike,» «Brutal Engagement,» and basic skills like «Run,» «First Aid,» and «Taunt,» have been enhanced, making combat more dynamic and strategic. All animals can equip three items at level 8, and their skill trees have been refined, enhancing the utility of animal companions in battle. Most skills can now be improved by one more level.
      • Armour and Weapon Rebalancing: Major changes include increased mace damage, the ability to upgrade rare weapons, and a rebalancing of armour layers, making crafting more challenging and rewarding. Legendary items cost a fortune and bring extraordinary benefits. However, improving them is difficult and expensive, while other fully improved armour and weapons can provide similar benefits at lower costs. All animals can now be armoured and layered, making them an important addition to your band of misfits.
      • Economy Adjustments: The quantity of resources has significantly increased while the game remains challenging without being frustrating. Prices for trade goods, skill mastery books, and legendary items have increased dramatically, making resource management and economic decisions more significant. Trinkets are worth a lot more, making them a good source of profit. Looting zombie villages and fighting zombies should prove particularly rewarding, as a fight vs. evil should be. The peddler trader now has large amounts of merchandise, addressing quantity shortage issues.
      • Food bonus overhaul: Basic foods also grant small bonuses. The player is thus incentivized to diversify the troop’s diet. Grease and fish oil are now essential cooking ingredients. Salt is easy to find, purchase, and carry, and you can mine it from iron deposits as a byproduct of your default mining actions. Mint has been introduced. All foods are granted a Valour Points bonus, which increases with the food’s sophistication and quality. You will never starve again, grace to how easy to produce and nourishing bread is. But you will also gain no bonuses from bread, so choosing when to eat one food or another now becomes an integral part of your strategy. However, all other food is now roughly half as filling due to the massive increase in overall map & trading resources quantity.
      • Profession Enhancements: All professions see boosts, and work-related accessories now give profession experience.
      • Paths Rebalanced. It becomes increasingly difficult to achieve higher levels while filling in the basic requirements is easier. Power and Glory is slightly lagging behind, granting more room for improvement in the mid-late game.
      • Increased Unit Customization: Medium and Heavy armour can be worn by all units but come with significant penalties to balance their strength, allowing for deeper tactical customization. Technically, you can now equip your Archer or your Ranger with Heavy Armor, but it makes little sense, as they come with severe penalties for Vision, Range and Movement. Meanwhile, a heavily armoured and shielded Swordsman, Brute or Warrior can be a formidable defensive pillar, holding back whole armies in melee. Light Armour becomes an excellent compromise between movement and defence. Helmets grant significant protection but will impair your movement and hinder your senses. Sometimes, you will be better off without, as in the real life of highly skilled melee warriors.
      • Improved Quests and Rewards: Quest previews and rewards have been updated to better match player expectations. Additional keys and skill mastery books are available as loot, adding more incentives for exploration.
      • Changes to Influence and Renown: Influence and gold have been adjusted to reflect resource inflation, making wealth titles and resource management more impactful.
      • Combat and XP Changes: The number of units in the timeline has increased from 8 to 10, and XP from enemy kills is up by 20% to 50%. Combat is more rewarding, and battles are longer and more challenging, especially with increased unit health.

      • You must have the latest version of the Steam, including all DLCs to date.
      • [advisable to make a copy before] Overwrite \SteamsteamappscommonWartalesres.pak
      • and in \SteamsteamappscommonWartales add export_en.xml and texts_en.xml.
      • You must start a new game the first time you use the mod. Usually, mod updates tend to be savegame compatible unless specified otherwise.
      • Familiarize yourself first with Vanilla. This mod is for advanced users, not for beginners.
      • When starting a new game, choose ‘Deserters Fleeing an Abusive Captain.’ There is a small glitch when selecting that option — ignore it; it doesn’t matter.
      • «Excellent at slap games» and «exceptionally smooth talkers» are okay but are less relevant.
      • AdaptiveExploration. This is highly recommended. You may try «Region-locked exploration,» but the game will quickly become boring or impossible to advance through. Due to the increased span of the character’s capabilities, choosing «Region-locked exploration» would limit you to following a single formula advancing through the regions, limiting your gaming options and fun. With «Adaptive Exploration», you can tackle regions in any given order.
      • Combat difficulty: Expert or Extreme (recommended).
      • Survival difficulty: Expert or Extreme (recommended).
      • Steam overwrites the «res.pak» to the latest Shiro version with every new Shiro update. To continue playing the game using «Land of Plenty,» you must wait until I issue the newest update and replace the files.
      • Usually, Shiro’s updates are minor and backward savegame compatible.
      • My commitment is to update this mod at least once per month until EOY 2026.
      • If you require more frequent updates or if the mod takes off, I will enable some form of donation to compensate for my time.
      • the next objective is to continue testing and balancing on the next regions.

      Possible developments and known limitations:
      I could not change the hard-coded values for dialogue rewards, e.g. the amount of gold necessary to cross a border or the 20 Influence reward when clearing the Salt Mines in Tiltren. This requires a different approach. As a result, border crossing is a bit easy, especially during the mid-late game. Also, some rewards could not be changed, so the economic boost leaves them a bit behind.

      • I look forward to Shiro’s capabilities to properly enable modding for this game. Due to the limited capabilities provided by the studio, this remains a hack, not a proper mod.
      • Diversify the music.
      • Find a way to alter the hard-coded elements, such as border crossing and some non-quest rewards.
      • Find a way to grant more keys in the game. One way would be to give a key per quest since finding keys in loot does not appear to work (let me know if you need it).
      • Pit armours and weapons are to be updated.

      Personal notes:

      I play (all) games by maximizing the game difficulty and then adjusting the odds in my favour until I can barely win. «Barely» is the key element here, as being overpowered grants no satisfaction. The very same principle is applied to the «Land of Plenty». I was running nuts searching for one more piece of leather or a couple of iron pieces. I found this resource limitation to be both frivolous and inconsequential. The game should be about strategizing and choosing the best path across many choices, crafting your way to the top of the mercenary world and not bothering why you’re missing one piece of lousy cloth.

      On this version, I find the mod well-balanced for Tilttren. The other regions are under testing. I expect the game to become easier and easier as the player advances through regions, especially for experienced, meticulous players who make all the right decisions and advance steadily. This is not something I aim for. However, the game’s static design makes it difficult to address this balancing aspect without hardening too much at the start.
      A manual adjustment would be to start with «Expert» difficulty and move to «Extreme» for combat and survival once you unlock the third region.
      The dynamic balancing to the late game will perhaps remain the holy grail of this mod to achieve reasonable end-to-end seamless experience across the whole game.
