World of goo 2
The developers shared that the final release of the game will have more than ten Goo Balls in total and that there will be levels that will involve water or lava. Players who want to challenge themselves can replay each stage to see if they can beat each stage under a certain time, a certain number of moves, and with use of a certain number of balls. When asked about a potential level editor or mod support, the developers didn’t have any official word on it, but they were interested in the idea given that the original game had fan-made stages too.
Holy balls, after 15 years they’re actually making World of Goo 2 and it’s coming next year
15 years after the original, 2D Boy is on the way back.

I loved World of Goo when it came out way back in 2008, and I’ve always thought it was too bad they never made another one. So it was really great to hear at The Game Awards tonight that finally, they are.
World of Goo 2 is coming from 2DBoy, the team behind the first game, and it looks and sounds a lot like the original—in a good way, to be clear. World of Goo is a clever, diabolical, occasionally intensely frustrating game with a simple premise: Balls of semi-sentient goo need to be rescued from various sorts of peril, and the only way to do so is by sticking them together in bizarre, wobbly contraptions.
Underlying it all is are bits and pieces of sharp commentary about corporations and consumer culture, which I thought pulled everything together just about perfectly. The puzzles themselves are so creative and clever that they stand on their own perfectly well—you can jump in anywhere and have a good time just smacking balls around.
I’m genuinely excited about this announcement. World of Goo is one of the smartest, most entertaining puzzle games I’ve ever played, and it really always has struck me as odd that we never got more. I don’t want to say it’s about time—I’m just happy it’s happening—but yeah, it’s been 15 years. It’s about time.
World of Goo 2 is set to come out in 2024 but at this point it sounds like development is pretty early on: Platforms haven’t been announced («Let’s just let the vast expanse of uncertainty fill our hearts with wonder, while we fill our bank accounts with exclusive distributon contracts,» the World of Goo 2 website says) and apparently they’re still looking for help with the soundtrack. That’s actually a really important part of the game—the World of Goo soundtrack is great. (If you play an instrument and want to help out, you can drop the team a line at the Tomorrow Corporation website.)
In the meantime, if you’d like to see what World of Goo is all about, the original game, updated to run properly on modern hardware, is available on Steam and the Epic Store.
Liquid gold
Goo Balls now easily turns into liquid and back into balls.

Liquid physics is the main innovation of World of Goo 2. The first game only had Goo Balls with some vague renderings of water, but this time around, the developers had the opportunity to experiment with liquid goo. 2D Boy, alongside Gabler’s studio called Tomorrow Corporation, worked with a new dimension of physics simulation — how liquid flows and splashes with gravity and against solid objects — and made that the centerpiece of this sequel. Watching the goo swish down angled paths like some kind of wild lava lamp is marvelous.
The premise of every level remains familiar: form structures using Goo Balls to get across gaps and reach the pipe exit. For this Nintendo Switch demo, I was able to select the balls by using the touchscreen or just half of the regular controller. Working with one of the developers in co-op, I was able to connect balls together to form supports that can be used to construct towers or bridges. This allowed the goo to flow from one section to the next, hopefully without needing to use too many balls in case you need them for a later structure.
World Of Goo 2 Release Date Revealed For May
More than 15 years since the original game launched, World of Goo 2 will release May 23 on Nintendo Switch and PC. The sequel is set to introduce new types of goo—like explosive, growing, and shrinking—to the physics-based puzzle series.
The World of Goo 2 release date was revealed at today’s Nintendo Direct. The game will debut as a console exclusive for Switch, including four-player local co-op only found on the hybrid system. A press release adds the sequel will feature more than 64 levels.
World of Goo 2 was unveiled at The Game Awards in December. The trailer for the sequel shows classic bridge-building with the goo, as well as terraforming and what look like goo cannons. The puzzle game comes from the original creators, with developer 2DBoy teaming up with the Tomorrow Corporation. The World of Goo 2 website adds «this is the biggest game we’ve ever made.»
The Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase also featured a number of other notable announcements. For instance, five classic Rare games are now available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, such as Blast Corps on 64. Meanwhile, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is planned to release later this year, and Nintendo pulled back the curtain on Endless Ocean: Luminous. It will be the first entry in the diving series since 2010’s Endless Ocean: Blue World.
