Specialists from the Dagenergo company, a branch of the Russian state-owned company Rosseti Northern Caucasus, found and destroyed an underground mining farm with 135 devices. The farm operated in the basement of a residential building on Laptiev Street in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala.
Energy workers said that illegal connection to the network caused power outages for residents of this house and neighboring buildings. The outages continued for several months. A cryptocurrency mining farm consumed as much electricity as a separate residential building, Dagenergo said.
Law enforcement agencies are now looking for the owner of the equipment. He faces a criminal case for theft of electricity on an especially large scale. After inspection, all equipment found on the farm was seized.
On January 1, the Russian government introduced a complete ban on mining in several regions of the country, including Dagestan. Mining of digital assets in most other regions is possible only under state control. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs registered in a special register of the Federal Tax Service (FTS), as well as individuals within the limit of 6000 kWh monthly, have the right to mine.
Since July 30, the Russian authorities have approved the rules for the transfer of information about miners by data center operators to the tax service.
Previously, the acting director of Dagenergo, Arsen Gadzhiev, announced the liquidation of a mining farm located on the territory of a cannery in the village of Khadzhalmakhi.
