Ministry of Defense of Russia: the attack on the airfields in Engels and Ryazan was carried out by Ukrainian UAVs
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on the evening of December 5 that two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles with jet engines attacked strategic aviation airfields in the Saratov and Ryazan regions. Earlier, several media outlets reported on the attacks, but this was not officially confirmed.
The agency confirmed reports of damage to two Tu-95 strategic bombers and the deaths of Russian servicemen. But the Russian Ministry of Defense claims that both drones were shot down. As the representative of the department reported, the damage was caused by the fragments of downed drones.
Explosions at the strategic aviation airfield in Engels and Diaghilev Air Base on the outskirts of Ryazan became known on the morning of December 5. In Diaghilev, which is 500 kilometers from the front line, where Il-76 refueling planes are stationed, the 43rd Center for combat use and retraining of flight crews and long-range aviation pilots is located.
