New Year's holidays: should Ukrainians expect an additional weekend?

During the period of martial law in Ukraine, holidays stipulated by the Code of Labor Laws were canceled. There will not be three additional days off for the New Year holidays.

RBK-Ukraine reports this with reference to the law “On the organization of labor relations under martial law”.

The law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in March significantly changed the labor legislation, because during martial law restrictions on the constitutional rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen, provided for by the Constitution of Ukraine, are introduced.

The law abolished all public holidays, as well as the postponement of the next day off after a holiday or non-working day. In addition, the order of the Cabinet of Ministers “On the postponement of working days in 2022” will not apply. December 26 (postponed holiday from Sunday, December 25, Christmas)

  • Monday, January 2 (postponed holiday from Sunday, December 1, New Year)
  • Monday, January 9 (postponed holiday from Saturday, January 7, Christmas Day)
  • We would like to remind you that the new law on optimization of labor relations, adopted on July 1, stipulates that work on the day off is paid at a double rate. The old norm has been returned to the Labor Code.

    As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the normal length of working hours during the period of martial law may be increased from 40 to 60 hours per week. But only for employees employed at critical infrastructure facilities.
